Champagnat Day at Red Bend Catholic College

On Thursday 18th June Red Bend Catholic College held Champagnat Day, a day celebrating the 10th anniversary  of the Canonisation of the founder of the Marist Brothers St Marcellin Champagnat. Marcellin was a priest in France during the turmoil of the French Revolution. He dedicated his life to those who had been affected by the Napoleonic Wars; the poor, the uneducated and especially the children. He used to say that “to raise children, we must love them equally. I cannot see a child without wanting to tell them how much God loves them.” It is on these principals that the Marist Brothers were founded. St Marcellin was Canonised on 18th April 1999.
The Champagnat day consisted of two main parts. Firstly the Champagnat Mass which was followed by an afternoon of activities and games for the students.
The Mass included a renewal of their vows by the Brothers living in community at Red Bend, as well as presentations to a number of students and Staff who have displayed characteristics like those of Marcellin. This years very deserving staff member was Mrs Gayle Thompson. Gayle was nominated by the senior students and by staff members alike. Several other Staff members were awarded certificate for their years of service.
The afternoon was spent in a variety of inter-House games including, Ultimate Frisbee, sack races, tunnel ball, skipping, and pavement art.

The College prides itself on its family atmosphere
derived from Catholic values and community involvement.
